Additional benefit awaits government employees once SSL is signed into law

Posted on December 8, 2015

MANILA, Dec. 8 (PNA) – Liberal Party standard bearer Mar Roxas has assured government employees that once the Salary Standardization Law was signed into law, more than 1.5 million of them will enjoy additional benefits

In his speech before the National Convention of Philippine Government Employees Association (PGEA), Roxas said the Php225-billion salary hike for all government workers is one of the successes of the Daang Matuwid program of the Aquino administration.

Roxas said that the honest collection of taxes and duties, the government was able to earmark the Php225-billion salary hike for government workers.

However, the presidential candidate said that one of the issues being discussed in the proposed law pending before the Congress is whether it should be made equal across the board or via percentage growth across the ranks.

He said that the rationale of a percentage growth across the ranks is that the greater the responsibility and authority a government employee has, the bigger the salary must be.

He pointed out that the government is trying to adjust government salaries to be comparable with private employees.

According to Roxas, the greater PhilHealth access, the CCT program and greater spending on infrastructure are among the many successes of the Daang Matuwid program, which the public benefit from.

Roxas was the keynote speaker at the event.

In attendance were 500 PGEA officers and members from various government agencies and private sector unions.

Meanwhile, when asked how he feels about his low ranking in surveys, Roxas said that what matters most is that he would be number one on Election Day, which is the most important survey of all.

Also asked why the LP once invited Senator Grace Poe to be the party’s vice presidential bet, Roxas said Poe did reveal her secrets on her residency and citizenship status. (PNA)
