LAOAG CITY, Dec 8 (PNA) — The sunshine city of Laoag continue to attract local and foreign visitors with its show of artistic and colorful lanterns displayed at the Aurora Park, this city.
To kick off this season’s merrymaking, young boys and girls from the different schools and villages here walk their way around the city on Monday afternoon, with their lantern costumes made of recycled and indigenous materials.
Icons in the city like the Laoag Bell Tower, a horse-drawn carrier or calesa and symbolic sun were among the most prominent designs that won this year’s annual competition for creative lanterns.
Aside from a certificate of appreciation and cash award, winners in various competitions such as best in creative lantern and walking Christmas decors were treated to a rendition of angelic voice of the Samiweng Choir during the awarding ceremony at the Aurora Park.
At the park, family members, visitors and friends spent quality time together while enjoying the feel of the season.
This year, the majestic Laoag City hall is adorned with lights on its brick walls and buttresses. Beside it is a giant Christmas tree made of colorful giant flowers and artistic butterflies.
“This is how we celebrate Christmas. A time of joyous giving and merrymaking,” said Laoag City Mayor Chevylle Fariñas during the kick-off ceremony. (PNA)
