CEBU CITY, Nov. 29 (PNA) — Cebu City traffic officials have reported heavy traffic on Sunday near the newly-opened SM Seaside City mall at the South Road Properties (SRP).
Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) acting head lawyer Rafael Christopher Yap said some 50 traffic personnel have been deployed to supervise traffic on affected roads.
The PHP8.5-billion mall, said to be the biggest in the Visayas and Mindanao, opened its doors to the public on Friday.
Thousands of shoppers trooped to the mall since it opened on Friday.
Traffic officials said some shoppers were forced to park on some side roads after the mall’s parking area was filled with cars.
At least 80 policemen have were deployed at the SM Seaside City Cebu to protect mall goers.
Senior Superintendent Marciano Batiancela Jr., officer-in-charge of the Cebu City Police Office, said the SM management has requested for more security.
He said he has coordinated with the chief of police of the Talisay City Police Station and they agreed to put up a permanent police outpost near the mall, which is near the boundary of Cebu City and Talisay.
The SM Seaside City Cebu, which sits on a 30-hectare lot in the SRP, is under the security jurisdiction of Cebu City Police Station 11 in Barangay Mambaling. (PNA)
