MANILA, Nov. 27 (PNA) — President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and his two sisters on Friday visited the tomb of their late father, former Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., to mark the latter’s 83rd birth anniversary.
Aquino with his sister Ballsy Cruz and Viel Dee gathered at the former Senator’s grave site whose remains are buried alongside those of former President Corazon Aquino at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City, for a mass at around 11 a.m.
During the mass, the President and his sisters offered flowers and prayers to their father.
The late former Senator Aquino was assassinated in August 1983 when he returned to the country after three years in exile.
His death triggered a series of protests that culminated in the EDSA-1 People Power revolt that ousted then President Ferdinand Marcos.
EDSA-1 also catapulted his widow Corazon to the presidency. Mrs. Aquino’s death in 2009 generated a wave of sympathy that prompted incumbent President Aquino, then a senator, to run for the presidency in the 2010 election. (PNA)
