Bahay Financial Services (BFS), in partnership with Bantay Kalikasan, recently organized a tree planting activity at the La Mesa Nature Reserve. It was spearheaded by BFS COO Beth Gilson and CFO Lizzie Yu, along with the support of senior officers Mareyca Sacdang, Butch Siongco, Ayette De Leon, Jon Sampang and Juno Henares.
The activity started with a short lecture on environmental awareness given by Sol Bagonghasa, a forester of Bantay Kalikasan. The participants were given a bird’s eye-view of Bantay Kalikasan’s efforts to protect the La Mesa Watershed. After the lecture, the participants were shown a demonstration on how to carefully plant trees. A caretaker from the nature reserve reminded everyone that in order to successfully plant trees at a better rate, they must make sure that the saplings are planted not too deep or too shallow. After the demonstration, the participants embarked on a 30-minute muddy hike to the tree-planting site to plant 3 Cupang trees each. The activity was capped off by the awarding of participants’ certificates courtesy of Bantay Kalikasan.
37 of BFS’ employees participated in this tree-planting activity aimed at fostering volunteerism and support of the company’s efforts toward environmentalism.
