ILOILO CITY, Nov 13 (PNA) — The city government today recognized this year’s ‘Huwaran na Anak,” an annual undertaking of this local government (LGU) through the Iloilo City Task Force on Street Children (ICTFSC).
The winners were chosen from among the Grade 9 and 10 students of Iloilo City whose annual family income does not exceed P18,000 and their weighted average in school not less than 85 percent.
This year’s champion was Cidrex Trabajada from Dungon A in Jaro district, who bested 13 other nominees. He was awarded P19,000 cash prizes and gift packs. Named as first runners up was Angelito Garcia while second runners up was Hanzel Mae Ejemplar. They took home P13, 500 and P9,000, respectively and gift packs.
The annual search was conceptualized six years ago to promote the value of being family-oriented, specifically strengthen parent-children relationship, instill the value of education, encourage children to become role models in nation building and recognize the contribution of the youth to their communities.
It also served as culminating activity to the series of activities undertaken by the city government in line with the Children’s Month celebration in October. (PNA)
