MANILA, Nov. 11 (PNA) — The Supreme Court (SC) has dismissed the petition filed by the group of Bayan Muna Party-List Rep. Carlos Isagani T. Zarate against President Benigno S. Aquino III.
In a press conference on Wednesday, SC Public Information Office (PIO) Chief and Spokesman Atty. Theodore O. Te said that “the Court DISMISSED the petition for the writs of Amparo and Habeas Data for lack of merit.”
The petitioners claimed that in relation to complaints for kidnapping and trafficking of persons filed by certain members of the lumad, they were included by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in a “rogues gallery” of photographs shown to the complainants.
They added that their inclusion in the supposed “rogues gallery” indicates that they have been the subject of state surveillance in violation of their rights, as protected by the writ of amparo.
“The Court found no basis to issue the two writs prayed for,” Te added. (PNA)
