UP alumni group to welcome engineering professors in Bay Area

Professors from the University of The Philippines (UP) College of Engineering will be in the Bay Area for the Philippine Development Forum (http://www.af-usa.org/forumgala.html) sponsored by the Ayala Foundation USA. The group is composed of College of Engineering Dean Dr. Aura C. Matias, UP Diliman Vice Chancellor for Research and Development Dr. Luis G. Sison and Professor Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara.

The forum will be on Saturday, September 25 at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose, California followed by a gala in the evening to be attended by President Benigno S. Aquino III.

To welcome these UP dignitaries and highlight the forum, a reception will be hosted by the UP Alumni Association of San Francisco (UPAASF). It will be held on Friday, September 24 at 5 PM at Room 111 of the Jerry Yang & Akiko Yamazati Bldg on 473 Via Ortega Street at Stanford University.

Dr. Rowena Guevara, a resource speaker in the Forum on Science & Technology Education, will discuss the just recently concluded Centennial Celebration of the UP College of Engineering, ongoing events, milestones, accomplishments, opportunities in the Engineering Research and Development for Technology (ERcT), outlook for the next three years of the UP College of Engineering and opportunities for collaboration and Venture Capital in UP Diliman. For its part, the UPAASF will share its plan to launch a Mentoring Program in the FilAm community in the Bay Area.

Other invited guests include Dr. Luisito Calingo (UP BSIE), Vice President at Dominican University, Dr. Ronnie Borja (UP BSCE) Professor at Stanford University, Dr. Isagani Sarmiento, (UPLB – Aggie Eng) a biotech entrepreneur, Tina Mantaring (UP BSEE 09) MSEE student at Stanford University, Dr. Manuel Gaspay (UP BSGE/MSIE) Dean at Northwestern Polytechnic University, JoJo Dela Fuente (UP BSCE) owner of Optifab, Herbert Li (BSCE) part-owner of Pioneer Contractors and more .
