MANILA, Oct 15 (PNA) — Independent candidates Senators Grace Poe and Francis “Chiz” Escudero, among the top contenders in the May 2016 national elections, have filed their respective Certificates of Candidacy (CoCs) at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office in Manila Thursday afternoon.

Poe and Escudero, who are running as president and vice-president, respectively, both submitted their CoCs.

Poe was accompanied by her mother movie and television actress Susan Roces while Escudero was with his wife actress/host Heart Evangelista.

In her speech, Senator Poe acknowledged the policies of Aquino administration in fighting corruption and leading the country to the straight path (Tuwid na Daan).

Our government, under President Aquino, has made great strides against graft and corruption),” she said.

But, Poe noted that there are still many things that needed to be done and more programs to be realized which she promised to implement.

Poe also asked the public to pray for her in the new journey that she will be treading.

On the other hand, Escudero noted that if elected, they plan to create a government for the people.

Our objective is to establish a government that will fully care for its people),” he said.
