BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Oct. 7 (PNA) — Tiger grass producers here recently got P700,000 funding assistance from the provincial government and SN Aboitiz company.
Governor Ruth Padilla said that through the fund, the members of the Nueva Vizcaya Federation of Tiger Grass Producers Associations (NVFTGPA) will be able to increase and expand the production of tiger grass in their areas.
Tiger grass is used as a raw material for the province’s soft brooms, one of Nueva Vizcaya’s many One Town, One Project (OTOP) prides.
“This assistance will surely rejuvenate our soft broom making industry which suffered in the past years due to the depletion of supply,” Padilla said.
She said soft broom makers have been ordering their raw materials outside Nueva Vizcaya and bringing back the availability of tiger grass in the province will help both farmers and soft broom makers in earning more income.
NVFTGPA members come from the towns of Sta. Fe, Kayapa, Aritao, Diadi, Dupax del Sur, Dupax del Norte and Alfonso Castaneda.
The funding assistance came from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds of the SN Aboitiz company through the recommendation of the provincial government.
The power company pays its CSR fund yearly to the province, being the host and major supplier of water to the Magat Hydro and Power Project (MHPP) in Ramon town in Isabela. (PNA)
