MANILA, Oct. 3 (PNA) – Veteran senator Juan Ponce Enrile believes that Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. will have a distinct advantage if Senator Gregorio ‘Gringo’ Honasan II will join as the fourth candidate from Bicol in the vice presidential race in 2016.
”It’s all very obvious. The Bicolanos will have to decide which one they will have to support or they will be split, for sure. With that condition, Senator Marcos will have a distinct advantage,” Enrile told the media.
Honasan has been offered by opposition presidential candidate Vice President Jejomar Binay to be his running mate.
If Honasan finally decides to accept the offer, he will join fellow Bicolanos Senators Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero, Antonio Trillanes IV and Leni Robredo in the vice presidential race.
Aside from Marcos, other non-Bicolano who declared intention to run for vice president is Senate minority leader Alan Peter Cayetano.
Enrile said Marcos, a lawmaker from Ilocos Norte, is expected to enjoy the support of the so-called Solid North.
”If you’re outsider in Ilocandia — all the Ilocanos all over the country, they are that cohesive. Except a few individuals or those who maintain their individualism. We are talking of real politics. We are not talking of theories,” Enrile said. (PNA)
