Pangasinan lines up array of activities for National Statistics Month

Posted on October 5, 2015

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Oct. 5 (PNA) — The provincial government has lined up various activities to make the 26th National Statistics Month (NSM) this October more meaningful and worth remembering.

With the theme, “Pagyamanin at Gamitin ang Estadistika, Kalusugan para sa Lahat ay Abot-Kamay Na (Maximize and Use Statistics Towards Expanding Health Care Opportunities), the celebration will focus on the province’s serious intention to heighten its health programs with the aid of statistical data.

Pangasinan garnered the Best NSM Province in Region 1 for three consecutive years from 2008 to 2010. The three consecutive wins catapulted Pangasinan to bag the Hall of Fame Award in 2011.

With this, the provincial government under the leadership of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. continuously endeavors to intensify the promotion of awareness and appreciation of the value and importance of statistics to the different sectors of society as well as to elicit cooperation and support of the public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in Pangasinan.

Governor Amado Espino Jr., who will lead the NSM celebration, is very vocal to pass on the province’s best practices to all local governments in Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, the provincial government in partnership with other agencies will conduct an annual search for the statistically developed LGU in the province involving various municipalities and cities.

Dr. Anna Ma. Teresa De Guzman, chairman of this year’s event, is urging Pangasinenses to continue doing the best-practices that were done in the past years as this, according to her, will give the province an added strength towards achieving its goal in maintaining its title as the most statistically-developed LGU in the region.

Scheduled activities for this year’s provincial NSM celebration include oratorical contest, essay writing, poster and slogan-making, statistical quiz and jingle making.

Winners for the literary competition under the provincial level will automatically represent Pangasinan in the regional competition on October 9.

The event will also be highlighted by the conduct of the first-ever Pangasinan Environment Summit on October 8 at the Sison Auditorium, Youth Leadership Summit on October 14 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC), and Provincial Health Summit on October 23, also at the Sison Auditorium.

Other statistics-related activities are also included as part of the month-long celebration such as skills enhancement/livelihood training seminars, briefing on fraud and scam (involving all barangay captains and treasurers in the province), and mangrove planting.

Health activities were also scheduled like malaria border operation in Barangays Pita and Babuyan at Infanta town (Oct. 19-23), HI-5 surgical caravan (same date) at Bayambang Distict Hospital, TB caravan through integrated mopping “Operation Suyod of TB and Leprosy Cases” in the towns of Bani, Anda, Agno, Mabini, Lingayen, Labrador and Mangatarem on October 20, 21, 27, and 28.

The provincial statistics committee comprising of various line agencies will also conduct evaluations on the Search for the Most Statistically Developed LGUs from October 15 to 23.

Awarding of LGU scorecard is on October 23 at the Sison Auditorium while the closing ceremony will be on October 30 also in the same venue. (PNA)
