MANILA, Sept. 30 (PNA) – A day after Nacionalista Party (NP) senator Alan Peter Cayetano declared his intention to run for vice president, another NP senator on Wednesday said he is also planning to join the vice presidential derby in 2016.
”Yes, I’m also planning to run for vice president,” Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. said when asked if he will run for higher office during a dialogue with students of Universidad de Manila.
If Marcos finally declares his vice presidential bid, three senators from the NP will compete for the second highest position in the land.
He will also become the fifth incumbent senator to seek higher post in the 2016 polls.
Earlier, Senators Grace Poe and Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero announced they will run in tandem for president and vice president, respectively.
Senator Antonio Trillanes IV was the first to express his intention to run for vice president.
Marcos said reelection remains an option for him “but as of now, talks are focused about vice presidency.”
The son of former President Ferdinand Marcos has admitted that he is in discussions with the camps of declared presidential candidate Vice President Jejomar Binay and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who is being convinced by several groups to run for president. (PNA)
