BALANGA CITY, Bataan, Sept. 28 (PNA) — The provincial government, through the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office (PSWDO), has started the annual distribution of rice subsidies to identified beneficiaries in the province.
In 2004, the provincial government of Bataan entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the National Food Authority (NFA) to provide rice subsidies to surviving World War II veterans and/or their surviving spouse/children.
Aside from the war veterans, other beneficiaries of the rice subsidy program include the personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police and their support unit, day care workers, accredited barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars, barangay tanods, KABALIKAT leaders, and municipal presidents of KALIPI, persons with disabilities (PWDs) and tribal groups.
To date, the PSWDO headed by Marilyn Tigas with the support and cooperation of the local chief executives have finished the distribution in the towns of Abucay (Sept. 17), Hermosa (Sept. 18), Orani (Sept. 18), Dinalupihan (Sept. 21), Orion (Sept. 22), Limay (Sept. 22), Morong (Sept. 23), Bagac (Sept. 23), Samal (Sept. 24), Upper and Lower Mariveles (Sept. 25).
