MANILA, Sept. 21 (PNA) — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is coordinating with the Thailand Immigration through the International Police (Interpol) regarding the arrest of the suspects in the killing of broadcast journalist Gerry Ortega in Thailand on Sunday.
“We are coordinating with them (Thai authorities) through the Interpol,” said BI Spokesperson Atty. Elaine Tan.
Joel Reyes, the former governor of Palawan and his brother Mario, former Coron mayor, were arrested in Phuket.
Tan said that the former Palawan local officials are in the custody of the Royal Thai police, which is also in charge of Thai Immigration.
The BI official could not confirm when the Reyes brothers would be deported back to the Philippines.
“Depende po sa process ng Thai Immigration,” she added.
The Reyeses are facing murder charges over death of Ortega, a prominent Palawan environment activist in 2011. (PNA)
