MANILA, Sept. 21 (PNA) — Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Monday said the immediate deportation of former Palawan Gov. Joel Reyes and former Coron, Palawan Mayor Mario Reyes is now being processed.
According to De Lima, the Philippine National Police (PNP) will fetch the Reyes brothers in Thailand.
Once they are deported back to the Philippines, the arresting officer should report to the court.
However, while there is still no commitment order as to where the Reyes brothers will be detained, they can be detained either at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Detention Facility or the PNP Detention Facility.
In March 2012, the Puerto Princesa City, Palawan Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 52 issued the warrant of arrest against the Reyes brothers for being the ‘brains’ behind the murder of environmentalist-broadcaster Doc Gerry Ortega.
Ortega was gunned down by two armed men in a public market in Puerto Princesa City on Jan. 24, 2011.
The Reyes brothers were arrested on Sunday in Phuket, Thailand for alleged “overstaying” in the said country. (PNA)
