MANILA, Sept. 20 (PNA) — All stations of the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1, LRT-2) are now selling beep cards after the LRT-1 completed on Sunday the activation of the ticketing system for its northbound direction.
This development allows passengers to purchase and use beep cards for both railway systems in both southbound and northbound directions.
Previously, beep cards were only usable in LRT-1 southbound directions.
Beep cards were first activated in LRT-2 stations, both southbound and northbound.
It took the concessionaire technical and operation teams over six weeks to complete the installation of beep card equipment for the LRT-1 northbound direction.
Beep cards supplier AF Payments Inc. (AFPI), meanwhile, said that the concessionaire is now working on activating the system in the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) within the first two weeks of October.
A single journey (SJ) beep card costs PhP 20, but it can only be used at LRT station where it is purchased.
On the other hand, a stored value (SV) beep card costs PhP 100. It includes load worth PhP 80 and is valid for four years. It can be reloaded for as low as PhP 12 to as high as PhP 12,000. (PNA)
