TUGUEGARAO CITY, Sept. 20 (PNA) — Town officials in Santa Praxedes, Cagayan have been appealing to President Benigno Simeon Aquino III and Social Welfare Secretary Corazon ‘Dinky’ Soliman to help them rebuild typhoon-destroyed core shelter houses and other infrastructure.
Mayor Ester Lina Aguinaldo of Santa Praxedes, the farthest town in northern Cagayan near Ilocos Norte, said the municipality is still reeling from the effects of Typhoon Ineng last month so they wrote national officials to help them in their rebuilding process.
She said that they have been spending their ‘measly’ calamity fund after the councilors have approved a declaration of state of calamity two weeks ago. The past typhoon left 97-hectare damaged palay crops and P800,000-worth vegetable and fruit crops, Aguinaldo added.
They have assessed at least P3.7 million-worth damage to 287 houses by the said typhoon.(PNA)
