MANILA, Sept. 17 (PNA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Thursday the PhP 1.1-billion donation it received for the rehabilitation of typhoon “Yolanda”-stricken regions was used where it was intended.
According to DSWD Secretary Corazon J. Soliman, the department disbursed a total of PhP 969,980,171.12 or 83.20 percent of the total donation of PhP 1,165,797,345.13 it received as of Sept. 14, 2015.
Secretary Soliman said the amount went to transitional shelter program, cash-for-work program, ready-to-eat food items and medicines, demmurage fees, reconstruction of civil registry documents, supplies for children, and administrative expenses, among others.
“The remaining 16.80 percent is already allocated based on a work and financial plan to include supplementary feeding and tourism projects,” she added.
Super typhoon “Yolanda” hit the country, particularly a great area of central Philippines, in November 2013. It affected a total of 1,473,251 families and left about 6,300 people dead. (PNA)
