ZAMBOANGA CITY, Sept. 17 (PNA) – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is set to open two innovation facilities worth PhP10 million to cater to the needs of the students, local inventors and other stakeholders in this city.
DOST Regional Director Brenda Nazareth-Manzano said Thursday the facilities, each worth P5 million, include Food Innovation Center and Manufacturing and Engineering Innovation Center.
Manzano said in an interview at the sideline of the opening of the three-day 2015 Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE) that the Food Innovation Center will be established at Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) campus.
Manzano said the center, which is expected to be opened before the yearend, will cater to the needs of the students, local inventors as well as food processors.
The equipment needed for the construction of the center which include spray dryer, vacuum fryer, and other food processing apparatuses are set to arrive within this month.
Manzano said the Manufacturing and Engineering Innovation Center will be placed at the campus of the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU).
She said the center will house engineering equipment such as boiler, printers, and other modern engineering equipment.
She said the center will be open next year. It will be used by students, researchers, inventors, and other stakeholders. (PNA)
