ORMOC CITY, Sept. 17 (PNA) -– The city’s peace and order situation improved during the past three months, owing to reduced law-breaking incidence and intensified crime-fighting by authorities.
This was gleaned in the crime situation update for the period May to August 2015 presented by city police director Sr. Supt. Ferdinand M. Garay.
Statistics showed that there is a 7.92 percent decrease in crime volume during those months with 372 compared to 404 registered on the same period last year.
Except for murder, there was a reduction on all other index crimes (homicide, physical injuries, rape, theft, robbery and carnapping).
“I was welcomed by 10 shooting incidents on my first three months of assignment here,” says Garay, who was assigned in Ormoc in May.
Two other murder cases involved stabbing, doubling the murder cases for May to August 2015 compared to the six incidents last year.
The Ormoc Police Office made headway in the fight against drugs with 37 operations conducted, doubling the 15 operation in May to September last year.
This resulted in the confiscation of 290 grams of “shabu” worth more than PHP2 million. This is a significant amount compared to the measly 6.15 grams worth PHP72,500 seized from the same period last year.
The operations (seven search warrants, 17 buy-busts and 14 others incidental to lawful arrest) resulted in 76 arrests and the filing of 40 cases.
The number is considerable compared to the 16 arrested and 13 cases filed from May to September 2014. (PNA)
