Pangasinan provincial gov’t hands out P250,000 to calamity victims

Posted on September 15, 2015

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Sept. 15 (PNA) — The provincial government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) distributed Tuesday a total of P256,000 financial assistance to at least 55 families affected by natural calamities such as twister (buhawi), monsoon rains, and typhoons that happened last July.

PSWDO Chief Emilio Samson reported that five families (one each from the towns of Bani, San Fabian, Sta. Barbara Calasiao, and Urdaneta City) that registered one death each due to the past typhoons Falcon and Egay were given P10,000 financial assistance each.

On the other hand, four families in Bani also received P10,000 from the provincial government when their respective houses were totally damaged by the two-week monsoon rain last July, while one family whose house suffered minor damage was given a cash assistance of P3,000.

Meanwhile, four families from Anda town whose houses were totally destroyed by twister were given emergency shelter assistance worth P10,000 while 41 families in the coastal town of Sual received P3,000 each for their partially damaged houses.

Samson said that the cash assistance was given by the provincial government to the affected families to be used by them for repair of their damaged houses, as start-up capital for small businesses, or for their personal needs.

The amount, he said, is a form of support from the provincial government under the leadership of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. together with Vice Gov. Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. and the members of the board to include Liga ng mga Barangay president Amado “Pogi” I. Espino III.

The provincial government earlier distributed P920,000 to over 100 families that were affected by twisters in the towns Asingan and Bayambang sometime last June. (PNA)
