BACOLOD CITY, Sept 15 (PNA) — Two upland villages in Sagay City, Negros Occidental received technologically-advanced water purifying systems donated by Japanese firm Inada Inc. in partnership with Japan International Cooperation Agency and Power Foundation.
The recipients, barangays Baviera and Colonia Divina, are provided with Aqua Cube Water Filter intended to support life and produce safe drinking water for residents in times of emergency or disaster such as fire, typhoon, earthquake.
Baviera village chief Rodel Apelacio thanked the donors for the project that can benefit 625 households in their community.
He shared that in the past, most of the residents in their village experienced gastrointestinal infections because they consume unsafe drinking water coming from deep wells or rainwater tanks.
For his part, Colonia Divina village chief Johnny Buhayan said the project provides safe drinking water to more than 600 households in his area.
The Aqua Cube Water Filter enables disaster stricken-communities to use potable drinking water from various available sources of water such as pool water, well water, and rivers to victims of disaster.
The water purification unit uses high-quality performance microfiltration membrane filter and can produce 2,000 liters of water in one hour. It is equipped with a 2.8 kVA engine generator, which can also be used as power source necessary for evacuation shelter.
The equipment was designed by Inada Satoru in the aftermath of massive earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in 2011.
Meanwhile, Inada Inc. executives headed by Koichi Inada met with Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., and Provincial Consultant on Investment Promotions Rafael Coscolluela to discuss the possibility of providing other local government units in the province with similar water purification units.
It is a very laudable project because after every disaster, safe drinking water is necessary to prevent diseases and save lives, the governor said.(PNA)
