Cayetano hopes to be Mar’s running mate

Posted on September 12, 2015

LEGAZPI CITY, Sept. 12 (PNA) — Senator Alan Peter Cayetano is optimistic that the Liberal Party will get him as Mar Roxas’ running mate in the 2016 presidential election.

In an ambush interview, Cayetano on Friday said there are ongoing negotiations with the Liberal Party for him to be the vice presidential (VP) running mate of Roxas, the administration’s presidential standard bearer.

He admitted that there have been ongoing talks between a group of close friends and private citizens and members of the Liberal Party asking the administration party to consider a Roxas-Cayetano tandem.

The group, which Cayetano refused to identify, claims that the tandem would be a perfect combination as both of them share the same visions, that is “Tuwid na Daan” or straight path.

The Senate Majority Floor Leader said his vision of Tuwid na Daan would be “Tuwid na Daan 2.0”, meaning, what President Aquino has build upon will be reinforced so that there would be continuity, faster and better.

He claimed that his party, the Nationalista, and the Liberal Party have been “natural” allies for five years under the PNoy administration.

“The LP and NP have common enemies — that is corruption and poverty,” Cayetano said.

Asked if he is a candidate on the waiting, Cayetano said he will abide by and respect the LP’s selection process but, he said, if in case he does not make it “hindi ko naman pagpipilitan ang sarili ko (I will not force myself),” he added.

He, however, said he would wait for the time that Roxas and President Aquino will be ready to pick the VP candidate of their choice.

“I have learned that Pres. Aquino would like to have more time to see and convince Senator Grace to agree to be the administration VP candidate,” Cayetano said, adding “By the time they are ready to decide, nandito lang ako — kung sa pagliligawan, we are now texting each other,” he said.

Cayetano and his wife, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, arrived here on Thursday and attended the wake of Lani’s grandmother in Tiwi, Albay.

Cayetano also had a dialogue with members of the Albay District Tricyle Operatiors and Drivers Association (TODA) on Friday wherein the association received Php100,000 as seed capital for his PTK (Presyo, Trabaho, Kita/Kaayusan) Program a micro-financing program under the senator’s Kontra 5-6 project.(PNA)
