COTABATO CITY, Sept. 12 (PNA) – The Department of Health in Central Mindanao Region has awarded three poor but cleanest villages in North Cotabato as the winner in its search for best sanitation practices at barangay level.
In a statement, DOH in the SOCCSKSARGEN region, said the winning villages were Barangays Datu Mantangkil in Arakan town, Barangay Camasi in President Roxas town and Bagumbayan in Tulunan, all in North Cotabato.
Datu Mantangkil won under Category 1 or barangays with at least 100 households; Barangay Camasi in Category 2 or barangays with more than 200 households; and Barangay Bagumbayan in Tulunan town under Category 3 or barangays with more than 500 households.
These villages have been declared open defecation-free (ZOD) or all households and schools have clean toilets for human waste disposal and have access to potable drinking water.
DOH-12 released the results Friday following a region-wide evaluation conducted last month with the village winners received P100,000 each.
Of the winners, two were endorsed for the DOH National Search of Barangays with Best Sanitation Practices (NSBBSP). Thes are Barangay Camasi, President Roxas under Category 2; and Barangay Bagumbayan, Tulunan, under Category 3.
The award is given to barangays in the country that displayed excellence in practicing proper sanitation and hygiene. Its objective is to encourage communities in maintaining good and healthy environment for the present and future generations. (PNA)
