DPWH in Northwest Leyte has 92.64% accomplishment rate

Posted on September 11, 2015

ORMOC CITY, Sept. 11 (PNA) — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 4th Leyte Engineering District (LED) hit an accomplishment rate of 92.64 percent, ahead by .17 percent for regular projects scheduled for this year.

The said figures show out of the 60 projects, 53 are completed while six are ongoing and one is yet to commence. The remaining project set for implementation is a footbridge in Barangay Naungan.

The 60-meter bridge will connect Zone 7 and Quinto Limbo. District Engr. Lino Francisco Gonzales said they experienced a problem in the sub-soil exploration as they expected the post’s base to reach 20 meters deep.

However, the seabed remained soft even at 40 meters deep, prompting them to change the design of the bridge from deck girder to suspension.

Aside from regular projects that are funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA), the agency also implements outside infrastructure projects or those funded from sources such as government agencies.

Of the 38 school buildings of the Department of Education which already have Special Allotment Release Orders, 12 are being constructed.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) also funded 16 farm-to-market roads (FMRs) worth PHP2 million to PHP3 million each that are 100 percent complete. Eighteen more FMRs worth PHP2 million each funded by the DA’s trust fund were implemented, 12 of which are ongoing and eight already completed.

There are also road-slip repairs in 2014 from typhoon Yolanda-related releases. These include one in Candelaria village in the stretch of the Matag-ob-Palompon highway which is ongoing at PHP11 million and the completed along the Merida-Lundag stretch worth PHP 3 million.

Two projects from the reconstruction assistance on Yolanda funds are being readied: a PHP20-million covered basketball court set for turnover to the municipality of Merida in December and the PHP59 million rehabilitation of the civic center in Palompon town, scheduled for completion in June 2016.

There are also 74 extended projects or those funded in 2014 but implemented this year by 4th LED, 69 of which are already completed, including 45 school buildings.

At present, the construction of two other schoolhouses is still ongoing. (PNA)
