MANILA, Sept. 9 (PNA) – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Wednesday it has prepositioned its personnel and equipment in flood-prone areas in the metropolis.
According to Atty. Crisanto Saruca, head of the MMDA Traffic Discipline Office, the move was due to localized thunderstorms which brought heavy rains on Tuesday evening that caused flooding and hours-long traffic snarls that stranded thousands of commuters along the stretch of Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and several other areas of Metro Manila.
Saruca said the agency is deploying six flood control composite teams with five members each composed of sidewalk clearing group, flood control, and traffic enforcers.
He added that the personnel will have flood equipment that drain the flood water in the flooded areas.
