MANILA, Sept. 7 (PNA) — Subscribers of telco giant PLDT will soon be able to avail of better access to government websites hosted in the Philippine Open Internet Exchange or PHOpenIX with the inking of a new deal with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Monday.
Under the PLDT-DOST memorandum of agreement (MOA), fiber optic facilities will be established to link PLDT to the DOST’s PHOpenIX.
PLDT will also provide rack space with power in its VITRO Data Center facility, where DOST can set up and operate their third PHOpenIX node.
Once activated, the facilities will allow DOST to operate PHOpenIX simultaneously from three different locations, and improve the resiliency of the government internet exchange.
PLDT Executive Vice-President and PLDT President and CEO Ernesto Alberto in a statement welcomed this development.
“The PLDT Group fully supports DOST and its landmark Philippine OPEN IX initiative, and its vision to operate an internet exchange that will interconnect local internet and data and service providers,” Alberto said.
“This MOA is a testament of our commitment to work together with the DOST on its laudable undertakings,” he added. (PNA)
