ORMOC CITY, Leyte, Sept. 6 (PNA) – Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo is hopeful that the 16th Congress will pass the Anti-Dynasty Law after President Benigno Aquino III declared the measure as a priority.
Bills that are certified as urgent are given preference in Congress in terms of agenda, explains the congresswoman, who was here Friday for a multi-sectoral forum on good governance.
Robredo is a co-author of House Bill 3587 which prohibits relatives up to the fourth civil degree of affinity to run for an elective position.
“It was difficult to pass because the prohibition is up to the first cousins ,” she relates. The compromise in the committee level is the prohibition will be limited to first civil degree of consanguinity, which include immediate family members,” Robredo said
Even so, the lady solon said she will be happy even if Congress passes a watered down version of her bill as it will be an important first step rather than not to have anything at all.
“I will stand by my version (of the bill) pero you know how it is in Congress. You aim for a 10 but you should be happy with a two or a three,” she added. (PNA)
