VILLABA, Leyte, Sept. 6 (PNA) –The World Vision turned over on Saturday PHP13 million worth of classrooms to a secondary school here.

The six newly-repaired classrooms and two newly-constructed school buildings for Villaba National High School (VNHS) in Cagcognot village was completed ahead of the 100-day construction schedule, which started June 8.

Aside from the school buildings, World Vision also donated a water pump drive water system for the maintenance of water within the school premises.

Leading the turn over ceremony were World Vision’s information manager Ligaya Muñez and reconstruction manager Webster Rice.

“We, in the World Vision, aim to continue to improve the life of these children. We hope this will help the children to be motivated and hopefully they will be successful in the future,” Rice said.

The new structure will directly benefit 380 students in this town.

VNHS school head Amie K. Ebales recalled that the school was totally damaged when super typhoon Yolanda struck. Education official urged VNHS to ask help and so they sent pictures to World Vision for the organization see the status of their school after the disaster.

“I feel great and very happy together with the teachers for having this opportunity that were given these six newly repaired classrooms, two newly constructed school buildings with a water system. We are very thankful though we very far from the city, we are now already given benefits,” Ebales said.

Villaba is about 94 kilometers west from Tacloban City, the regional capital and 40 kilometers northwest from Ormoc City, the commercial center of western Leyte.

Frade 10 student Bia Montuerto, 12 shared her feeling about the newly-built classrooms in their campus .

“I am very happy. At last, we will not be staying inside those tents anymore. I know that these classrooms are very conducive for our learning, Thank you, World Vision.”

The new facilities will immediately be used on Monday to transfer the Grade 9 and 10 students who have been using tents as classrooms. (PNA)
