CEBU CITY, Sept. 1 (PNA) — The Cebu provincial government is seeking a total of PHP4 billion in infrastructure projects from the National Government for this year.

The Office of the Cebu Provincial Engineer reported that of the total amount, some PHP1.8 billion worth of road projects have been implemented in Cebu so far this year.

The funds were coursed through the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), in the Provincial Development Council (PDC) sectoral committee meeting last August 28.

Another funding proposal has been submitted to the DILG for PHP2.2 billion worth of road projects.

Cebu Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora said the biggest chunk of PHP1.5 billion of the PHP1.8 billion so far implemented this year was coursed through the Department of Tourism (DOT) for roads leading to tourist destinations in Cebu.

Cebu’s 4th district was allotted PHP700 million for road concreting projects in Medellin town and the three tourist destination towns in Bantayan Island, namely, Bantayan, Madridejos and Sta. Fe.

Cebu’s 5th district was allotted PHP474 million for concreting of roads leading to tourist destinations in the towns of Carmen in mainland Cebu and San Francisco, Poro and Tudela in Camotes.

Cebu’s 2nd district got PHP146 million; 1st district, PHP96 million; and 3rd district, PHP84 million.

President Benigno C. Aquino III, who visited Cebu last August 24, earlier presented a list of PHP22.8 billion worth of infrastructure projects in Cebu in the last five years. (PNA)
