MANILA, Aug. 30 (PNA) — Electricity-market operator Philippine Electricity Market Corp. has reported it is investigating more violations by generation companies on the must-offer rule at the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market.
“There are still lots of cases. We have 1,611 cases at the enforcement and compliance office because we conduct monthly investigations,” PEMC president Mel Ocampo told reporters.
She noted most of the cases were filed due to the companies’ violation of the must-offer rule at the market, but added some cases were brought by real time response.
Ocampo said in the president’s report that from February 2014 until June 2015, the ECO has received 1,611 requests for investigation. She stressed this proves PEMC’s determination to monitor and enforce processes to promote accountability and foster a culture of compliance.
She also pointed out WESM saw an increase on its case investigations.
Meanwhile, the president bared the case against Therma Mobile Inc., a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power Corp., which has not moved yet and is still pending at the Court of Appeals.
PEMC imposed a PHP 234.9-million penalty on TMO last year for violating the must-offer rule, which requires gencos to offer their capacity under any circumstances. (PNA)
