MANILA, Aug. 28 (PNA) — The low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and located east of the Visayas at present is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone (TC) this weekend.
“There’s low chance for that LPA to become a TC in the next two days as conditions aren’t favorable for this to happen,” forecaster Glaiza Escullar from State weather agency Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday.
Already cooling is the warm ocean water providing energy the LPA needs to intensify into a TC, she noted.
“The LPA hardly moved since forming Thursday afternoon (Aug. 27) and continues drawing energy from that water, cooling it in the process,” she said.
She also said the LPA’s circulation is partly over landmass which isn’t a source of energy for this weather system.
“We therefore expect the LPA to remain as such until Sunday (Aug. 30),” she said.
In its 24-hour weather advisory released at 11 a.m. Friday (Aug. 28), PAGASA located the LPA at 250 kilometers east of Eastern Samar province’s Guiuan municipality.
The LPA will bring light to moderate rains and isolatedthunderstorms over Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region, noted PAGASA.
PAGASA forecaster Cris Perez also said cloudy skies as well as light to moderate rainshowers and isolated thunderstorms will likely prevail this weekend over east-lying Quezon province due to the LPA.
“Eastern Visayas can experience moderate to occasionally heavy rains beginning Sunday afternoon (Aug. 30) until Tuesday (Sept. 1),” he further said during a forum in Metro Manila Friday.
He added PAGASA expects no TC entering PAR or developing there during such period. (PNA)
