DSWD releases 7,968 family food packs in Ilocos provinces

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, Aug. 24 (PNA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) field office in Region 1 has extended food assistance to the provinces which were hit by typhoon “Ineng”.

The agency on Sunday said it has released 7,968 family food packs to the local government units of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur as augmentations assistance to victims of the recent typhoon.

A family food pack contains six kilos of rice, four cans of sardines, four cans of corned beef, and six sachets of coffee.

The delivery of family food packs were facilitated by the agency in partnership with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Philippine National Police (PNP), and Philippine Navy (PN) who provided trucks used for loading the said goods.

In addition, the World Food Program also provided trucks for the delivery of 10,000 family food packs from DSWD National Resource Operations Center.

DSWD regional information officer Iryn Cubangbang said the agency is also overseeing the operation of quick action response teams for the repacking and delivery of family food packs, monitoring, retrieval, and consolidation of disaster reports in coordination with the regional, provincial and city disaster risk and reduction Councils in the two provinces.

At present, a total of 16,219 families or 82,865 individuals in the region have been affected by “Ineng”. Out of the said number, about 2,251 individuals are temporarily residing at 26 evacuation centers.

One was confirmed dead, two others were missing and four were injured due to the typhoon. Meanwhile, 221 houses were totally damaged while 147 houses were partially damaged by the catastrophe. (PNA)
