TUGUEGARAO CITY, Aug 23 (PNA) — All Municipal and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMC) of Cagayan have now been ordered to immediately prepare and submit damage reports to the Provincial DRRM Office for consolidation as basis for the grant of assistance by the Provincial Government especially to farmers affected by Typhoon Ineng.
The order came after Ineng brought in heavy rains and strong winds to the different municipalities in northern Cagayan since Thursday, August 20 when the tropical cyclone had set in the province.
Common accounts of ordinary citizens including local officials from the different towns of northern Cagayan in radio interviews DWPE-Tuguegarao say, rainwater has accumulated in low lying areas, especially in rice production areas of Baggao, Sto. Niño, Pamplona, Calayan Island, Ballesteros, Abulug and in Allacapan, Cagayan according to Municipal Planning and Development Officer Rommel Ursua.
“Since Friday, newly planted palay and even areas planted with vegetables in our town have now been submerged in water. Even fruit trees were also affected by the Ineng’s strong winds”, Ursua said.
Baggao’s Tourism Officer Joan Dunuan also said, corn plants on vegetative stage in her town have been down because of Ineng’s strong winds. Sto Niño, Cagayan corn farmers have the same experience as well, according to LGU’s Executive Assistant Romeo Uy. (PNA)
