MANILA, Aug. 23 (PNA) — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is hoping that more companies will adopt the flexible work arrangement for their employees to cope with the daily traffic problems in Metro Manila.
DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said adopting such arrangement would help their employees cope with the daily heavy traffic on their way to and from work.
“Opting for flexi-work is already allowed in our existing guidelines,” she said in an interview.
The DOLE chief said such work arrangement will be helpful to workers since they will not be too pressured in going to work at 8 a.m.
“For those that are on flexi-time, it allows them to come to work in different times,” said Baldoz.
According to DOLE Advisory No. 4-2010, having a flexible work arrangement is allowed through a voluntary agreement between the employers and employees.
The three flexible work arrangements that may be considered are compressed workweek, gliding on flexi-time schedule, and flexi-holidays schedule.
Traffic problems in the National Capital Region has worsened not only on Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) but also in other main thoroughfares.
On the other hand, Baldoz said the National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) will be conducting an assessment if the heavy traffic is already hampering the workers’ productivity.
“There are no complaints to us yet. So far, we think, they are still managing. The traffic is really bad but workers are really allotting time for their travel,” she said. (PNA)
