MANILA, Aug. 20 (PNA) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced on Thursday that the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), or the Number Coding Scheme, will be lifted as the country marks “Ninoy Aquino Day” on Friday, a holiday nationwide.
In a twitter post, MMDA said the number coding rule is automatically lifted in the whole Metro Manila area during regular holidays.
If the number rule would be in effect, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 9 and 0 are not allowed on major thoroughfares from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday.
Under the number coding scheme, which aims to ease the volume of traffic on Metro Manila’s streets, vehicles are banned from major roads from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., depending on the last digit of their license plates.
August 21, 2016 is declared as Ninoy Aquino (Special Non-Working) Day to commemorate the death anniversary of assassinated former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. (PNA)
