LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 17 (PNA) — A passenger died while 28 others were injured after a bus fell into a rice field in Barangay (village) Monbon in Irosin, Sorsogon.
Police Senior Insp. Jonathan Mapa, investigator-on-case of Sorsogon Police Provincial Office, identified the casualty as Allan Jaraba, 35, of Barangay (village) Salvacion, Sorsogon City.
Investigation showed that at about 2:15 a.m., Sunday, a Mega passenger bus was traversing the Maharlika Highway en route to Samar province via Matnog Port when it accidentally ran through the shoulder of the road.
The bus — driven by Frederick Caramoan, 59, of Gabon, Talisay, Camarines Norte — bumped a coconut tree, causing it to fall into the rice field.
Jaraba was crushed and stuck under the bus, resulting in his instantaneous death.
The 28 passengers who sustained minor injuries and the driver were brought to the Irosin District Hospital but was later transferred to the Sorsogon Provincial Hospital for further treatment. (PNA)
