LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Aug. 14 (PNA) -– Five persons with disability (PWDs) in Pangasinan received prosthesis and another, a wheelchair courtesy of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) in partnership with the provincial government in an awarding program on Thursday.
All these PWD support gadgets cost P175,000.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Emil Samson said that prior to the awarding rites, an assessment of the beneficiaries was conducted by the PBF Prosthetics and Brace Center, a non-government organization (NGO) of the Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, which manufactures the artificial devices.
Prosthesis is an artificial device that replaces a missing body part which may be lost because of trauma, disease or congenital conditions.
Recipients of the prosthesis were: Noly Tabucol (Bolinao), Orlando Mapili (Bolinao), Elymar Ramos (Lingayen), Ronnie dela Cruz (Lingayen) and Roger de Guzman (Mangatarem). John Vincent Castro, on the other hand, received a wheelchair.
During the awarding, other PWDs from various parts of Pangasinan underwent assessment so that they can also avail of prosthesis.
The activity formed part of the provincial administration’s commitment for the promotion and protection, and equal serving of human rights and freedom for Pangasinan PWDs.
Various programs were implemented and being maintained by the province to escalate the self-esteem and capabilities of Pangasinense PWDs as partners for the over-all development of Pangasinan, PSWDO Samson said.
Pangasinense PWDs were also formed into municipal and city–based associations and a provincial federation for them to have better representations who will amplify matters concerning them, he added. (PNA)
