Posted on August 13, 2015

DAVAO CITY, Aug. 13 (PNA) — A couple is facing charges of illegal drug possession after they were arrested in a lightning raid conducted by police authorities at their residence in Bunawan District on Saturday morning.

Operatives of Bunawan police station forwarded to the City Prosecution Office (CPO) the charges against Eduardo Bacalso and his wife Mary Jane Lumantas who were both arrested at around 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 8.

Armed with a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Emmanuel Carpio of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 16, the raiding team from Bunawan police station barged into the couple’s residence in Purok Tres, Barangay San Isidro, Bunawan District.

The raid yielded four sachets of shabu, several shabu paraphernalia and a live ammunition for .38 caliber revolver.

Police said the couple has been a subject of surveillance for more than two months after they received information about the suspects’ illegal activity at their barangay.

In separate drug charges, Bunawan Police charged Jomar Canoño, 27, driver and a resident of Toril, and Wilbert Habacon, 30, a resident of Bago Gallera, this city. Both persons were arrested in a checkpoint for bringing about one kilogram of dried marijuana leaves on Saturday morning.

Police records showed that the two suspects were riding a XRM motorcycle bearing plate number LC 23706 when they were flagged down in a checkpoint manned by the Task Force Davao and Bunawan Police Station at Barangay Licanan in Lasang.

When checked, the authorities found a bundle of dried marijuana leaves inside the black bag they were carrying.

The suspects tried to sneak away from the authorities but the team of Sgt. Richard Fajardo of Task Force Davao caught them up.

Police said a third member of the group on board a motorcycle managed to flee. The suspects also refused to reveal where they got the illegal stuff. (PNA)
