MANILA, Aug. 13 (PNA) — Malacañang said on Thursday the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has decided to lease new optimal mark reader machines to ensure the conduct of orderly and credible elections next year.
“The Commission on Elections’ decision to lease new optimal mark reader machines for the 2016 elections is in fulfillment of its constitutional mandate to ensure the conduct of orderly and credible elections,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a statement.
“We note that, according to (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista, this decision took into account timely delivery, adequate time for testing the new machines, and the need to address problems encountered in the past two elections. Citizen vigilance and support will go a long way toward enabling the Comelec to fulfill its mandate,” Secretary Coloma said. (PNA)
