CEBU CITY, Aug. 12 (PNA) — Cebu Governor Hilario Davidee III Wednesday hailed Cebu’s 300,000 farmers as “heroes.”
”They (the farmers) are our heroes,” Davide said in a speech during the celebration of the “Farmers’ Day” Wednesday at the Cebu Capitol.
Davide said the people are dependent on the farmers for their food.
The celebration of the Farmers’ Day was part of celebration of the 446th founding anniversary of the province of Cebu on August 6.
Rolando Saragena, Cebu provincial agriculturist, said this is the firs time the provincial government celebrated the Farmers’ Day.
Saregena said the celebration highlights the Davide administration’s emphasis on the importance of farming.
Saragena said the activity was welcomed by farmers’ federations in the province.
During the celebration, the provincial government distributed farming equipment to farmer federations and cooperatives.
Among them were water pumps, mobile rice and corn threshers and mills and equipment for grain storage, Saragena said. (PNA)
