ILOILO CITY, Aug. 12 (PNA) — The country continuously seeks peaceful negotiation through an arbitration case brought before the United Nations (UN) and definitely not military confrontation with China over the West Philippine Sea issue.
This was stressed by Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Assistant Secretary Charles Jose in Iloilo City, Wednesday, in explaining the Philippine government position over the Chinese occupation of some islands in the West Philippine Sea, within the territorial jurisdiction of the country.
Jose, spokesman of the DFA, admitted that in a worst case scenario, the Philippines is no match to China’s military might.
But everything can be settled down in a peaceful negotiation between two countries as both have established friendly brotherhood ties with many Filipino-Chinese doing business in the Philippines, he said.
The Philippines maintains a democratic space through peaceful negotiations on the arbitration table, Jose said. (PNA)
