LEGAZPI CITY, Aug. 10 (PNA) — The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) has commended Albay for its active engagement and commitment in implementing the PCW-AECID project, “Institutional Strengthening of National and Local Governance on Human Rights and Economic Empowerment with a Gender Focus: Implementation of the Magna Carta of Women (MCW).”
In her letter to Governor Joey Sarte Salceda, PCW Executive Director Emeline L. Verzosa said that under the governor’s leadership, Albay province has improved significantly in mainstreaming gender concerns and addressing women’s issues.
Albay has been chosen by the PCW-AECID as one of the pilot provinces in the localization of the MCW.
Verzosa also announced a further engagement with Albay for the implementation of the Violence Against Women Documentation System (VAWDocs), particularly in Tiwi and Polangui — considering that these LGUs have already established referral procedures for VAW services.
These two municipalities are the pilot LGUs of the province for the implementation of GAD-realated programs, projects and activities.
As part of the engagement, the PCW has scheduled this August a consultation-meeting with Tiwi and Polangui service providers to smooth out the expectations from VAWDocS and to profile the services and resources of these LGUs.
With the project piloted in Tiwi and Polangui, the service providers are hoping for clear and specific methods of addressing VAW issues and concerns in these municipalities. (PNA)
