MANILA, Aug. 9 (PNA) — A magnitude 4.3 earthquake shook Occidental Mindoro in Southern Luzon on Sunday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake occurred at 12:41 p.m. and the epicenter was traced at 29 kilometers southwest of Paluan in Occidental Mindoro.
Phivolcs noted that Intensity 3 was felt in Tagaytay City, Cavite; Intensity 2 in Batangas City and Bauan, Batangas; Puerto Galera, Victoria and Calapan, Oriental Mindoro; and Intensity 1 in Pasay City.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 16 kilometers.
Less than an hour later, at 1:33 p.m., a magnitude 4.1 quake jolted the provinces of Ilocos Norte in Northern Luzon, with epicenter traced at 75 kilometers northwest of Burgos town.
The quake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of nine kilometers.
Phivolcs said there was no casualty or damage reported and no aftershocks were expected from both tremors.
The Philippines lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where 20 to 25 earthquakes per day — mostly imperceptible — are common, Phivolcs said. (PNA)
