CAMP GEN. SIMEON A. OLA, Legazpi City, Aug. 8 (PNA) — Suspected New people’s Army rebels gunned down an incumbent barangay councilor in an ambush at about 7:45 a.m. Friday at Barangay Bangon, Lupi, Camarines Sur.
A police report said Jose Auditor Jr., 44, married and resident of the village, was on his way to Barangay Tagbak, Ragay on board his motorcycle when the suspects armed with M-16 armalite rifles ambushed him.
The rebels immediately withdrew toward an unknown direction after the ambush.
Responding authorities recovered empty shells of M-16 armalite rifle at the crime scene.
The report said the rebels had suspected Auditor of being a military informant as he had friends in the service.
The victim’s relatives have vehemently denied the accusation, saying Auditor was just a simple and accommodating public servant. (PNA)
