ILOILO CITY, Aug. 6 (PNA) — Dumangas Mayor Rolando Distura highlighted the maintenance of peace and order and security as among the significant accomplishments of his administration when he delivered his State of the Municipality Address (SOMA) on Tuesday.
“I have focused on the major pillars of good governance basically on peace and order and security, and public safety, financial housekeeping, disaster preparedness, social protection and business friendliness and competitiveness,” Distura said.
The mayor specifically cited the high accomplishments of the local Philippine National Police (PNP) against illegal drugs.
Since July last year up to July 2015, PNP Dumangas has conducted 29 illegal drug operations with 46 persons apprehended. They were also able to put back into law 33 wanted persons, five of which were most wanted.
“Dumangas is the best of the bests in the Philippine National Police in the province of Iloilo,” Distura added.
He said that Dumangas is number one in Region 6 on the aspect of safety, respect and trust in a study on the community’s level of satisfaction on police performance in Western Visayas conducted by the University of the Philippines (UP) College of Management.
Further, Distura said that they have already surpassed this year’s target on business tax of P2.3 million with the P2.4 million collection as of end of June.
Their Special Education Fund (SEF) has also increased since their real property tax collection has also increased. This year’s SEF is P8.1 million, far higher than the P4.4 million in 2014.
“It is an indicator that the trust and confidence of my fellow residents here in Dumangas was back,” Distura further said.
Last year, Dumangas received a Seal of Good Governance from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG). Distura hoped that this year, they will again be given the same recognition because of their accomplishments. (PNA)
