PSA coordinates PopCen in the Cordilleras

Posted on August 6, 2015

BAGUIO CITY, Aug. 6 (PNA) — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Cordillera Regional Development Council (CRDC) are calling on the public to support the 2015 Census of Population (PopCen) which will commence on Monday, August 10.

PSA Cordillera Interim Regional Director Olivia Gulla, on Wednesday, August 5 said “it is every Filipino’s right to be counted and to participate in the census, to provide complete and accurate data which may lead to the right planning and may eventually translate to appropriate government services for the people.”

Gulla assured confidentiality of the data, the general population will provide, citing Section 26 and 27 of Republic Act 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013.

“The PSA and stakeholders are all set for PopCen 2015 with 2,478 personnel hired and trained to act as census area supervisors, team supervisors and enumerators to cover 138 census areas in the 77 municipalities and two cities in the Cordillera Region,” Gulla said.

“Census Coordination Boards at the regional, provincial, municipal and city level have been convened all over the region to help PSA in the conduct of the 2015 Census of Population which enumeration period is from August 10 up to September 6,” Gulla added.

A mid-decade population census, PopCen 2015 is a complete enumeration of households in the country designed primarily to take an inventory of the population of the entire country and aims to provide government executives, policy and decision makers and planners with population data that can be used for social and economic development plans, policies and programs.

Cordillera RDC Vice-Chairman and National Economic Development Authority (NEDA-CAR) Regional Director Milagros Rimando, in the same interview, said “the PopCen results or data may be useful to the government planners and policy makers.

The data may also be used by business and industry sectors as well as research and academic institutions.”

Rimando added that population data will be very important in the computation of the annual budget or Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of every local government unit (LGU).

The last nationwide PopCen was conducted in 2010. (PNA)
