CEBU CITY, Aug. 5 (PNA) — Local government units (LGUs) all over Cebu are on alert for possible flooding and landslide brought about by super typhoon Hannah, a disaster official said.
Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) spokesperson Jules Regner said all municipal disaster officers have been told to be ready for the effects of the super typhoon which is not expected to hit land in the country.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said typhoon Hannah entered the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Wednesday.
Regner said the PDRRMO has warned all municipal disaster officers to monitor areas near bodies of water for possible increase in southwest monsoon winds.
“The municipal disaster officers should monitor flood prone and landslide prone areas,” Regner said.
Heavy rains were reported in Cebu City Wednesday afternoon, causing flash floods in some low-lying areas.
Regner said disaster management officers should avoid being complacent.
Typhoon Seniang, which brought heavy rains in the southern part of Cebu in December 2014, killed more than 15 people in Cebu.
Floodwaters brought about by Seniang cut off two bridges, isolating eight towns in southern Cebu. (PNA)
