ZAMBOANGA CITY, Aug. 5 (PNA) – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has received five awards, including the coveted “strike-free” region award, during the agency’s mid-year performance assessment.
DOLE Regional Information Officer Gay Iris Tangcalagan said Wednesday that the DOLE regional office received the strike free award since there was no single labor strike that registered here in Region 9 for almost 20 years already.
Tangcalagan said they were able to maintain zero strike since they managed to establish social dialogues with unions, workers’ organizations and industry leaders.
“Once there is a problem, there is no need to bring it out in the streets by holding protest rallies since we could sit (down) and talk about it,” she said.
She said the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB) has helped them much in achieving industrial peace in Region 9.
Region 9 has more or less 62,000 labor forces employed in 3,300 establishments.
Tangcalagan said the other awards the regional office received included the following: 100 percent assistance to establishments with deficiencies leading to compliance; highest number in the delivery of Labor and Employment Education Services (LEES); highest number of establishments covered under the Labor Laws Compliance System (LLCS); and, highest number of child labor-free establishments.
“These awards will inspire us to perform more, to take extra mile to attain decent and productive employment for every Filipino and in like manner, our delivery (of services) will also help increase productivity of the workers,” she said
DOLE Sec. Rosalinda Baldoz personally handed over the awards to DOLE Regional Director Sisinio Cano during the agency’s Mid-Year Performance Assessment from July 29 to 30 held in Camiguin province. (PNA)
